The second edition of the EIT-funded Superbug Awareness for Education (SAFE) project started in January 2021, with the aim of raising awareness about antimicrobial resistance. The project, coordinated by our initiative in collaboration with the Universities of Barcelona and Naples and Roche Diagnostics, organises workshops for university and secondary-school students in Southern Europe, where the bacterial resistance problem is greatest. With this second edition, we added new consortium members that will allow us to extend our activities to Portugal and involve the primary healthcare sector. The target audiences were also expanded to include students, teachers, health professionals and patients.

Our initiative is also continuing its work on finding new antimicrobial molecules, including a promising peptide with antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.
